Youth Tennis Academy
Our motto is: ”Love And Enjoy Tennis For Life"
All group tennis classes are 1,5 hours long with a warm-up, stretching and elements of tennis fitness. The students per court ratio is 4 : 1. Some groups are customized to 3 : 1 ratio.
Every group of kids belongs to a certain grade of the tennis school program which defines the level of difficulty of the technical and tactical tennis courses they are taking.
Since a group is set for such a long period of time (September-June) it is very important to pick the right one. The learning effectiveness of the group depends first of all on the closeness of the kids to each other by age and level. That’s why an evaluation is required before placing a kid into the group in September.
During the remainder of the year, students are enrolled into existing groups after an evaluation has been made.
All tennis lessons are based on simple principles: a kid has to learn something every class; the only way to learn is to hit a lot of tennis balls during the class; you have to try your best to improve.
The game based approach is the major approach in teaching in YTA. Tennis is such a complex game and you have to learn how to PLAY it every class you take. All the drills and exercises are constructed in accordance of what we learn in the particular month. If this month we learn baseline play, all of the games and drills will be built around that.
YTA takes a big pride in honing the technical skills of its students. A major approach to that is to introduce every student to all the ways there are to hit the ball in tennis. It is the only way to create a thorough understanding of tennis in the child’s psyche.
The integral part of the tennis program are the fitness competitions which take place right before the tournaments twice a year. The students must understand that before competing they have to get in physical shape and that the only way to check on your own tactical and technical abilities and achievements is the match play.
An important part of YTA year round program is the Summer Tennis Camp.
It runs for 9 weeks from the end of June until the end of August. The current students and non-members may enroll on a weekly basis. The Summer Camp is optional but highly recommended. During one week of camp kids spent 15-20 hours on the court which is comparable to 3 months of indoor season if they are taking one 1,5 hour class a week.
The tennis camp program is designed to bring the kid’s tennis onto another level, improve their fitness and health. And, of course, to have some fun and to get to love tennis even more!
In the camp students go through all the major tennis strokes and tactical concepts.
On Fridays, we play the tennis camp tournament which is one of the highlights of the camp. Everyone has a chance to win. The winners get memorable tennis prizes.
The camp fitness program consists of tennis specific fitness tests of professional tennis players. It really makes a difference for a child to do the very same fitness test which his/her favorite tennis player does.
The Summer Camp obviously is not just about tennis. That’s why kids play different sport games and do relay races after the tennis practices are over. Sport games are a great way to have fun and to develop your fitness skills.
At the end of the day it is important to relax in the pool after a long day of hard work. It is a part of warm-down and recovery for the next day routine which is often overlooked in many other camps. All the Summer Camp fun is included in YTA tennis camp!
The enrollment for camp begins in January. The space is limited so please hurry!
