St. William’s Parish St. William of Vercelli was born in 1085 of noble parents, both of whom died when he was a child. At the age of 15, he made up his mind to renounce the world and lead a life of penance. He made a pilgrimage to St .James of Compostella, but after starting a pilgrimage to the holy Land, God revealed to him that he should stay in Italy. He built a hut at Mount Vergine to become a hermit, but so many people were drawn there by his sanctity and his miracles that he founded a monastery. He left Mount Vergine to found other monasteries, including one opposite the palace of Roger I of Naples, who took the saint under his patronage. Saint William died at the monastery of Guglieto in 1142. Gathered in common praise and worship of God, we the community of St. William’s parish affirm Jesus as the center of our lives and the reason for our being. Thankful for God’s goodness we live as generous stewards of the gifts of time, talent and treasure entrusted to us. We promote unity within our parish and celebrate the richness of our diverse culture. We are and we minister to people of all ages. We are committed to excellence in our school and religious education program. We work with others to address the concerns of the wider community and the needs of all our brothers and sisters. With God’s help we strive to live out these gospel ideals, in this place, in these times.
St. William’s School is a vibrant part of our parish community. It excels in academics, discipline, and the knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith. Our tuition is considerably lower than other schools in the area. The tuition is affordable because so many people help with fund-raising. Activities of the Home and School Association, the $1000 Club and a weekly bingo help to lower the tuition. A School Board, chaired by the principal, advises on school policies. The Home and School Association supports the school in many ways, and provides an opportunity for parents to participate in their children’s education.
