Terry's Bridal Shop How Are Wedding Gowns Priced?
Wedding gowns are priced according to the kind of fabric, which is often silk of superior quality, the amount of fabric, which can be at least ten times the amount used for an evening gown, for instance, the type and quantity of detailing, which can also be much more extensive than on an evening gown, and the labor involved in creating the dress. All this adds up.
Appointments Must be Made A bridal salon is not like any other kind of fashion store. A salon requires a more formal approach to shopping. Our salon is stocked with precious gowns that must be handled carefully. We require that you set up an appointment with one of our consultants for several reasons. By doing so, you'll be certain to receive full attention and personal service. Unlike regular fashion stores, we offer a selection of sample dresses in a few sizes only from a selected number of designers and manufacturers. This allows us to stock a vast range of choices. You make your selection from these samples. Because we only have several dresses for each style, our consultants must take very good care of them. For this reason, our consultants must assist the client in trying the dresses on, helping her to see the effect of the dress even if it isn't in her size, showing her how the dress can be altered, and, at the same time, taking care not to damage the dress. Be Sure To Order In Advance The timing of your wedding gown selection is very important . Many brides leave their gown shopping far too late and then are disappointed when manufacturers are not able to meet the tight deadline. Six months to a year in advance of the wedding date ensures enough time for delivery and proper alterations. Similarly, dresses for your bridesmaids must be ordered well in advance. As soon as you've decided on your wedding gown or the theme of your wedding, you can start seriously looking for your bridal party's outfits. As a first step, get a general consensus of your bridesmaids tastes and budgets. Be up front about what you will pay for and what you expect them to cover to avoid misunderstandings or hurt feelings later on. Be prepared to compromise. What To Expect At Your Appointment Expect each appointment to last around one hour. Arrive prepared to tell the your bridal consultant what kind of wedding you're having (formal or informal, traditional or modern); this kind of information will help her to suggest appropriate styles for you. Also, have a frank discussion with her about your budget; do not be embarrassed to tell her how much you want to spend, so she won't waste your time showing you gowns well out of your price range. After selecting a few styles, you are led to a special private fitting room to try them on. The fitting room is usually large enough to accommodate you and a companion (your mother or maid of honor) comfortably. Be sure to try on a number of different styles: you can't really tell whether a gown will suit you until you try it on. Your bridal salon consultant is expert at selecting gowns that will flatter your figure. A word to the wise, inviting more than one or two people to your appointments is tempting trouble. More people generate more opinions, which may be conflicting. A bride who arrives with a large party inevitably leaves frustrated, no closer to making her final choice Beware of Non-Reputable Retailers Sometimes bridal gowns are sold at significant discounts, but these sales can be problematic for the bride: gowns sold at cash-and-carry prices (often at clearance sales, typically held in large hotels) may not be returnable and often will not be fitted or steamed to be ready to wear. The quality of the gown may be second-rate, not holding up for your special day. Service may also be questionable or nonexistent, and the buyer may have difficulty receiving compensation if she has a complaint after her purchase has been finalized. Expert Alterations are Important Alterations to the gown are usually done for an additional charge, and are completed by an experienced seamstress. This work includes custom fitting of the gown, which is every bit as important as choosing the correct style. Usually two fittings are scheduled: one when the dress arrives from the manufacturer, the other about three weeks prior to the wedding. Optional custom work - such as extra beading, neckline adjustment, or the addition of a bustle - is usually completed at this time.
