It views the human body and its interaction with the environment as an integrated whole and emphasizes the harmony between various organs within the body and the harmony between body and nature. Any illness is believed to be caused by loss of the harmony due to the imbalance between the opposite qualities of Qi, namely Yin and Yang. Chinese medicine consists of acupuncture and herbal medicine. Acupuncture Hair thin needles are inserted into acupuncture points along the meridians where energy imbalance has been diagnosed. This practice enhances the body natural healing by regulating the energy flow and restoring balance. This promotes better blood flow and encourages healing. Treatments may also include the use of heat---moxibution, if the patient tends to be cold. The patient is left to relax in a softly lit room for about thirty minutes. Patients often fall asleep. Chinese Herb Another cornerstone of Chinese medicine is the use of natural herbs derived from plant to adjust excess or deficiency states and promote healing. The aim of herbal therapy is to regain balance within the system. Knowledge accumulated over thousands of years of study has resulted in a vast resource of herbal combinations that function very specifically within the body. Unlike most Western medications, herbal remedies are completely natural and have no drug side effects. Ms. Chen has the first Chinese herbal powder Pharmacy in the Boston area, with the natural herb directly imported from China. In some cases, after your acupuncture session, an herbal prescription, specifically made for your individual health needs is prepared for you. This is usually in the form of a tea that consumed twice a day. You leave the office with a supply of herb sufficient to last till your next weekly session.
