Club Passim Veggie Planet "The laid back atmosphere at Veggie Planet... will get you fed, entertained and brought back into the fold of peace, love and happiness." - from customer review.
Also made on premises are salads, soups, and desserts. It is a restaurant by day, and a top flight restaurant/folk music club by night (Club Passim). However, there is also seating available for non-club diners to eat during evening performances. Take-out is popular, as the food is cooked in a speedy ecological oven. The dough is completely organic and is made by the Haley House, a non-profit bakery in Boston's South End. Veggie Planet donates 2% of its food profits and 100% of its t-shirt profits to Food For Free, a non-profit organization helping to feed the hungry in Cambridge and surrounding areas. While we at Veggie Planet sincerely believe that vegetarianism can help both the well being of our planet and those of us who live on it (human and non-human alike), we also understand that serving sublime vegetarian food is just one part of a much larger effort to address the problems of our day. In addition to using only vegetarian ingredients, we also support local farmers, purchase organic ingredients when affordable, use organic dough from a nonprofit bakery doubling as a homeless service provider, and donate a percentage of our profits to other organizations working for social and/or evironmental change. Finally, we also strive to spread greater awareness of important social/environmental issues through various speaker and other events held either at Veggie Planet or at some other location on our own Planet Earth. "Thank goodness there's a truly veggie restaraunt in Harvard Square" laud loyalists of the "new wave" pizza joint housed at folk music Club Passim: the kitchen "thinks outside the box" with "unusual combos" that are certainly "fabulous" for "vegetarians" "but are still delicious enough for carnivores". "There was a time when the word vegetarian conjured images of sprouts and flavorless tofu. Times have changed, at least at Veggie Planet. Emmons' cuisine is hearty and flavorful and incorporates her deep respect for the foods of other cultures."
