Commonwealth Dance Academy
At Commonwealth Dance Academy students are taught dance in a nurturing, fun, and disciplined environment. We believe that dance develops self-esteem and confidence as well as grace and poise. Bettijane Grey-Robinson, the director, graduated with High Honors from Northeastern University, College of Education, and holds a BS and Masters of Arts degree. She is past President of Dance Masters of America, and Dance Teachers Club of Boston as well as a member of Dance Educators of America. She has taught Master Classes for the major dance organizations, and has been a faculty member for the Dance Teacher National Convention. She is proud of her many students who have pursued careers in dance, either as a professional performer or as teachers. Our school year extends from September through May. Classes are conveniently scheduled during afternoons, evenings and on Saturdays. New students are welcome to join through November. We offer: - Adult Classes - Boys Classes - Ballet Classes for Skaters - Excellent Training In Dance For All Ages And Levels - Special Programs For The Very Young - Programs Designed For Personal Enjoyment Or Serious Study - An Opportunity To Perform - A Teacher Training Program At the Dance Educators of America regional competition held in Springfield,MA, in December, twenty-eight students performed 12 dances and were awarded eight gold medals and four silver medals. First-Place High Score Awards were presented to the Senior Tap Line and the Adult Tap Group, which also received the Showmanship Award. Second-Place High Score Awards went to the Senior Lyrical Duet and the Teen Tap Group. A Third-Place High Score was given to the Senior Lyrical Production. The Judges' Choice Award was presented the Bettijane Grey-Robinson, Director of the Academy for her ballet entry, which was selected from 135 dances. Lucia Ruggieri and Maura Phares were awarded scholarships to Dance Educators of America's National Ballet Seminar , which will be held at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, in July, 2008. Blair Carroll won a scholarship to the Dance Educators National Convention Workshop in New York City. Attendance: Students benefit from consistent attendance. We expect them to come to class on time, properly dressed for class. Class Placement: Each student is placed in class according to his/her age, ability, and experience. School Year: The school year runs from September to May. There are four 8-week terms. Please call the studio for tuition/registration information. We look forward to having your child enrolled at our academy, where you can be assured he or she will receive a proper dance education, taught by certified instructors.
