The Horn Book, Inc.
Bertha Mahony founded The Horn Book in 1924 to herald the best in children’s literature. More than eighty years later, we are still following her lead.
As every educator and parent knows, the right book read at the right time can work miracles for a young reader, but finding that book can be tough, especially when each season brings a flood of unfamiliar titles. Here are several lifelines: an annotated selection of classics that has become a classic of its own; booklists of recent and recommended titles; inspirational articles about reading at home; and practical essays on using books in the classroom. We've also included resources for professors and students of children's literature.
  Horn Book Magazine
Independent, opinionated, and stylish, The Horn Book Magazine has long been essential for everyone who cares about children's and young adult literature. Our articles are lively, our reviews are insightful, our editorials are always sharp. We have gathered current and archival material to give you a taste of what we've been offering since 1924. Dig in.
  The Horn Book Guide
Virtually every children's and young adult book published in the United States is reviewed and rated in The Horn Book Guide, over 2,000 titles in each semiannual issue. Five indispensable indexes, including an extensive subject index, make it a peerless resource for librarians, classroom teachers, booksellers, and professors of children's literature. The print version of the Guide is published by the Horn Book, Inc. An electronic version is available by subscription from Greenwood Electronic Media.
  Family Reading
How does a parent raise a reader? Instructive ideas and provocative insights are presented in these articles. Also here is a checklist of terrible ideas for serious readers who like to laugh.
Unlucky Arithmetic: Thirteen Ways to Raise a Nonreader (PDF) by Dean Schneider and Robin Smith
