Andover Bookstore Inc.
Second oldest bookstore in America!
Andover Bookstore Inc is a destination for quiet browsing and sitting by the fireplace. People who lived here years ago come back to visit and say that this is one of the few places in town that hasn’t changed. And when they see the plate of cookies and coffee, their eyes light up, and they begin to reminisce about the old days. Over the years (almost two hundred), there has been a spirit — one that transcends time and location — characterized by the scent of a thousand fires in the fireplace, the dark-wood bookshelves, and corners with comfy chairs for reading. One staff member refers to it as “the Brigadoon of Bookstores.” In our busy world of cell phones and multi-tasking, the Andover Bookstore is, indeed, an oasis of calm. Two of our book groups have been meeting around the fireplace for 10 years now. Both began with five or ten members and were open to everyone. Now they are thriving, and meetings are attended by enough people that we have a long waiting list for joining our Wednesday evening or Wednesday morning groups. However, there is a Sunday afternoon group that began three or four years ago — and is looking for new members. Storytelling; Features and Swaps at the Andover Bookstore It’s a simple idea, and an ancient one, to sit around and tell each other tales . . . there is no better venue to do it in than around the fire at the Andover Bookstore. The Andover Bookstore runs a regular Thursday night author signing event series (see Events in the right-hand column). However, we know that life is hectic, schedules are jam-packed, and not everyone’s Thursday nights are free. We always have multiple books signed the night of the event which make great collector’s items and gifts with that special touch. Please email or call us and we will happily set one aside or mail it anywhere in the world. If you need a book personalized, just give us a ring before the event begins and we’ll personalize a signed copy to your liking. Our current selection includes:
Einstein’s Dreams by Alan Lightman Discoveries by Alan Lightman Saga by Arno Minkkinen Aloft by Chang Rae Lee A Mile Down by David Vann American Hostage by Micah Garen Story of Chicago May by Naula O’Faulain Why I’m still Married by Karen Propp ed. Vows by Peter Manseau Truth by Al Franken Criminal & an Irishman by Richard Farrell Eye of Danvers by Michael Ramseur Sugartown by David Rivard and many more. . .
