Copley Society of art Co|So, the oldest non-profit art association in the United States, represents more than 700 artist members nationwide. Co|So is the oldest non-profit art association in the United States, with a history dating back to 1879. We currently represents over 700 living artists members, ranging in experience from students to nationally recognized artists and in style from traditional and academic realists to contemporary and abstract painters, photographers, sculptors and printmakers. The gallery hosts between 15 and 20 exhibitions each year, including solo exhibitions, thematic group shows, juried competitions and fundraiser events. Every exhibition is competitive whether by submission to the jury or by the individual artist submitting a proposal to our Art Committee. Mission Statement The Copley Society of art (Co/So) is a non-profit organization committed to the advancement, enjoyment, and the promotion of its member artists and the visual arts. The organization is comprised of juried artists who are hand selected by a credentialed art committee. Co/So provides artists with a gallery for exhibiting and selling their work and a platform for engaging and educating the community. Membership is open to both artists and patrons whose combined contributions help support the educational and community outreach programs so essential to the organization’s mission set forth 125 years ago. In keeping with Co|So's mission of offering opportunities to both emerging and established artists, our schedule highlights the work of the greatest possible diversity of living artists: solo exhibitions feature the work of emerging (and often young) artists who have yet to find gallery or museum opportunities; group exhibitions offer nationally recognized artists an important venue to show their work in Boston. In addition, the calendar is balanced to reflect the stylistic diversity of Co|So's membership—showing work that ranges in style from classical, Boston school traditions to contemporary abstract, conceptual, and installation art.
Unless otherwise noted, all exhibitions and related programs are free and open to the public.
