Art Interactive
Art Interactive's mission is to provide a public forum that fosters self-expression and human interaction through the development and exhibition of art that is contemporary, experimental, and participatory. In addition to its exhibition program, Art Interactive also runs a Performer-in-Residence Program and hosts the Upgrade! Boston Lecture series. Other public programming includes interactive meals, performances, multimedia parties, experimental film screenings, lectures and other special events. Through all of its activities, Art Interactive provides a forum for the in-depth exploration of contemporary art. During the 2006 College Art Association conference in Boston, Art Interactive will be hosting a unique collaborative venture in new media art. New Media Caucus (NMC), Leonardo Education Forum (LEF), and Art/Technology (AT) Boston have joined forces to present New Media/New Work on view from February 22 – March 26, 2006. New Media/New Work collects a multitude of voices from the new media landscape in this brief and rare occasion. Gathering a cross-section of cutting-edge video and new media work, the exhibition is built around four individual projection screens representing each of the participating organizations. LEF’s Technologized Bodies/Embodied Technologies is co-curated by Legier Biederman and Dave Burns and consists of work by a group of international artists that explores the intersections among visuality, embodiment, and the technological. AT Boston presents Art and Technology Boston, a video reel compiled by Phaedra Shanbaum and drawn from work created by consortium members demonstrating each local organizations involvement in New Media in the greater Boston area. Slurp!, curated by NMC member Lisa Dorin, brings together short videos that ooze, gurgle, flicker, burn, float, whirl, lick, lather and generally let it all hang out in the name of art. The fourth screen, compiled and mastered by the NMC member Gail Rubini, highlights diverse technical and thematic approaches to the medium including experimental abstractions and formal and narrative explorations. Exhibition Advisory Group (EAG) Started in 2004, the Exhibition Advisory Group (EAG) provides feedback on how well AI fulfills its mission to provide a public forum that fosters self-expression and human interaction through the development and exhibition of art that is contemporary, experimental, and participatory. The members of the EAG are creatively-minded professionals, educators, business leaders, and members of the art community who review each exhibition, as well as provide feedback on AI's brochures, educational material, website, and gallery space.
