Work It With Judy Wellness Training goes steps beyond personal training. The structuring of a formal space for resistance and core training creates an informal space for the coaching of personal well-being. While I was working as a personal trainer at the Boston Sports Club, I witnessed the benefits of regular, individually tailored exercise sessions. When I decided to venture out onto my own, I chose to emphasize the quality of my working relationships, rather than the quantity. Consequently, I am selective about my female-only clientele and I am looking forward to working with people who aspire towards a healthy lifestyle. Philosophy Working out should be fun; if someone is not having fun, she should try something different. I believe that creative workouts capture interest and keep a person committed to living a healthy lifestyle. Our bodies, minds and appearance should be treated with respect. I am not saying this is easy, but it is a worthy endeavor. Too often, women equate self worth with physicial appearance and body weight, rather than feeling good about accomplishments and other attributes. I know this first hand - I struggled with an eating disorder when I was younger and spent many years restructuring my thoughts about and expectations of myself. Engaging in healthy exercise (mentally and physically) and fueling our bodies in respectful ways allow us to focus on more intersting aspects of our lives, than just numbers on a scale. Getting started There are as many types of goals as there are types of people. Find what motivates you and use that as encouragement. Some people like to take pictures of their progress, others like to evaluate how they feel in their clothing & some pay attention to their different moods. I love how confident I feel when I am active, using my body and working it! A lot of people are unclear about how often they should exercise. I encourage people to start with small steps (taking the stairs, going on walks, etc.). Resistance training twice a week provides many benefits. I encourage resistance training twice a week and additional cardio, besides normal daily activities, two to three times a week. Most importantly, do what you can!
