Community Boating, Inc.
Committed to the advancement of Sailing for All by minimizing economic and physical obstacles to the sport of sailing.

Mission
The mission of Community Boating, Inc., is the advancement of sailing for all by minimizing economic and physical obstacles to sailing. In addition, CBI enhances the greater Boston community by using sailing as a vehicle to empower its members to develop independence and self-confidence, improve communication, foster teamwork, and acquire a deeper understanding of community spirit and the power of volunteerism.
Organization & Structure
Community Boating is a private not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation. The organization is overseen by a Board of Directors, elected by our Corporation, a subset of about 250 members who through their volunteerism show special concern with the future of the organization and with the preservation and utilization of Boston's natural resources.
The Board's primary functions are to approve an annual budget, set policies, advise management, serve as community liaison and to spearhead specific committees and fundraising efforts. Meetings are held on a regular basis and are open to all CBI members who wish to attend. Meeting dates will be announced on the news and events page of this site once the schedule is set. Until then please inquire at the front office for meeting dates.
Community Boating's program is the largest, oldest, and best public sailing program in the United States, and serves as a model program for many others.
Adult Classes
Community Boating offers sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking to adults 18 years and older.
The Adult Program runs from April 1 to October 31, Monday-Friday 1 PM to sunset and weekends 9 AM to sunset. Membership includes instruction (formal classes and in-formal on-the-water instruction), unlimited use of all boats and discounts to events and CBI gear.
In addition to boating, members enjoy a wide range of activities including seminars, fundraising events, Friday Night BBQs, Helmsman parties, and other social events throughout the season.
Junior Classes
CBI's Junior Program offers sailing, windsurfing, and kayaking to all kids from 10 to 18 years of age taught by instructors who are all US Sailing Level One certified and have their First Aid and CPR certifications from Red Cross. To participate in the Juniors program, kids must have parental permission and must be able to swim at least 75 yards.
Best of all, the membership price for the Junior Program is only $1! Membership includes instruction (formal classes and informal on-the-water instruction) and unlimited use of boats, windsurfers, and kayaks. When not on the water, kids get to enjoy dances, our Junior Olympics, and other team-building events. Please check out our new/events (link to news/events) page for a complete schedule and details.
Classes at CBI are designed to help you learn to sail, windsurf and kayak through a series of easy steps. Every class is taught by an instructor, but the learning doesn't stop there. You will learn from other Juniors as well as you go out for informal instruction with one of our Instructors in Training (IIT). IITs are trained by the staff, and love helping new sailors learn more!
Accessible Sailing
For over 60 years, we’ve been offering "sailing for all" in our Junior as well as Adult Programs. Last summer, we were very fortunate to work with the DCR Universal Access Program, the EOEA’s (Executive Office of Environmental Affairs) Office of Public Private Partnerships and Genzyme Corporation to expand on our mission by providing sailing for individuals with special needs or those who may need special attention or assistance, to create the Universal Access Program at CBI.
