MetroWest Eye Physicians & Surgeons Cataracts
Every comprehensive eye examination at MetroWest Eye Physicians and Surgeons involves a dilated examination of the interior of the eye. The presence of a cataract can thereby be easily detected, its impact upon vision determined, and appropriate recommendations can be made. The latest surgical techniques using phacoemulsification and small incision- no stitch implant surgery are performed on an out-patient basis. Glaucoma Since glaucoma is usually an asymptomatic disorder, routine eye examinations are necessary to detect its presence. During every comprehensive examination at MetroWest Eye Physicians and Surgeons tonometry (measurement of intraocular pressure) is performed to detect glaucoma. If necessary, more extensive diagnostic studies such as visual fields and nerve fiber analysis may be performed. The latest medical, laser, and surgical procedures are available as treatment options. Diabetes-related conditions Diabetes can affect the eye in various ways. A dilated annual examination of the retina is strongly recommended by the American Academy of Ophthalmology since diabetic retinal pathology can lead to irreversible damage. At MetroWest Eye Physicians & Surgeons, all our physicians routinely perform the recommended examination of every diabetic patient. Ancillary diagnostic procedures such as fluorescein angiography are available in our office. General retina conditions A dilated retina evaluation is performed at each comprehensive eye examination at MetroWest Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Many physical disorders may have retinal manifestations. Diabetes frequently involves damage to the retina. Early detection can lead to early treatment. Contact lenses Dr. Laurie Elgas is our contact lens specialist. In addition to performing routine eye examinations, she specializes in fitting both soft and hard contact lenses, as well as more complicated specialized lenses for disorders such as Keratoconus. Complicated cases of contact lens fitting may be assisted by the use of corneal topography. This technology maps the surface of the eye, and is available in our office.
