What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your nervous system controls the function of every cell, tissue, organ and system in your body.  Your nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord, and millions of nerves.  While your brain is protected by the skull, your spinal cord is protected by the twenty-four moving bones of the spine.
Many everyday activities can cause these spinal bones to lose their normal position or motion.  This can result in nervous system dysfunction and ultimately, ill health.  The chiropractic approach to better health is to detect, reduce, and help prevent nervous system dysfunction through correction of misaligned and irritated spinal areas.
Who needs it?
The modern world places many stresses on a person's body.  Whether it's old accidents/injuries, everyday wear and tear, poor posture, poor nutritional habits, emotional stress, or sitting in front of a computer all day, your body is constantly being bombarded by external forces that can have an adverse effect on your health!   From newborns to seniors, anyone with a spine can benefit from conservative chiropractic care.  Just like going to the dentist regularly to prevent future problems you can also benefit from periodic chiropractic adjustments to help keep the spine moving optimally, keeping you healthy so you can do all the things you enjoy!
Dr. Thomas R. De Vita
Dr. Tom was first introduced to chiropractic when his mother had a severe disc problem and was looking for an alternative to back surgery.  She was helped tremendously with chiropractic and avoided surgery.  This impressed Dr. Tom enough to pursue this vocation in order to help others.  Once he received his undergraduate degree at the University of Hartford in Connecticut, he attended Columbia Institute of Chiropractic in New York City and graduated in 1975.
Dr. Jamal T.  De Vita
Dr. Jamal has had the distinct opportunity to grow up benefiting from chiropractic care since he was an infant, courtesy of his father, Dr. Thomas De Vita.  He has always been very active in athletics and credits chiropractic for keeping him healthy and going strong.  He did his undergraduate work at the University of Vermont and graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences.

What is an Adjustment?
Chiropractic care is known for its use of the adjustment, sometimes called manipulation.  An adjustment is a precise procedure in which the trained Doctor of Chiropractic exerts specific corrective pressure at specific places on your spine or other joint.  When a thorough examination reveals joints that are not in proper function, adjustments are applied to correct joint alignment and mobility, relieve associated muscle and nerve tension, improve balance and assist healing.  In most cases adjustments are performed with a handheld instrument or manually by the Doctor of Chiropractic.
If areas of abnormal spinal function are identified your doctor will recommend a chiropractic care program.  Your plan of care is based on your age, condition, lifestyle and unique spinal problem (s).
Major contributors to spinal issues are:
-Car Accidents
-Poor Sleeping/Postural Habits
-Chemical Imbalances
-Repetitive Motions
-Emotional Stress
-Scar Tissue/Previous Injuries
-Pinched Nerves
-Activities of Daily Living
-Sports Injuries
