Our story began while vacationing on Martha`s Vineyard back in 2003. We were staying with a friend who lived on the island. The house was decorated with various pictures and plaques of the island - some just the outline of the island. Like most tourists, Jake Gifford stood back and looked at an Island map. In its outline, he saw a green amphibian; in a few days, he drew a sketch and created the logo for the Lazy Frog. Hence Marvin the Lazy Frog was born.
Lazy Frog placed on South Water Street next to the lobby of the Harbor View Inn. Located inside a building with white siding, this Edgartown shop sells T-shirts, collared shirts, hats and sweat shirts with the Island`s outline decorated like a frog. T-shirts only cost $22 and remain one of the more affordable Edgartown souvenirs.
The Lazy Frog also specializes in leisure games such as bocce (Italian lawn bowling) and croquet. They also sell 3-dimensional kites shaped like whales, boogie boards and goggles. In Edgartown, not many stores supply toys and goodies for kids, Gifford, said."We wanted to supply everything that a family would need for a relaxing vacation. Many people who come to the store go to the Riverhead Disc Park in the state park," Gifford said. "I·ve volunteered to mow it and been pretty involved with it. The people who go up there love it."
But frisbees are the store·s most popular item, owner Jake Gifford said. On the frisbees, the rim width varies to create different aerodynamic effects. Like regular golf clubs, these discs are equipped for putting, driving and mid-range shots. In Frisbee golf, people aim the discs at metal cages and try to throw the disc into the containers. For Frisbee golf novices, Gifford offers tips and advice on throwing and aiming the discs.
"I understand how frustrating it can be," he said. "It·s not much fun if you can·t hit the spot or get enough length on a throw."
