The School of the Museum of Fine Arts
We offer renowned undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs in addition to programs leading to the Diploma, the Fifth Year Certificate, and the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate. Our programs are enhanced by our close relationships with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the third largest fine arts museum in the nation (and our next door neighbor!), and with Tufts University. Programs & Faculty Since 1876, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has been educating artists by providing them with the respect and freedom they need to develop. At the Museum School, you’ll find exceptional teachers who are expert mentors—all of them working artists. You’ll find cutting-edge art-making; enviable relationships with Tufts University and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and an extraordinary heritage of launching great artists. Each of our eight programs of study has its own emphasis, but each resounds with the intensity that comes from the exploration of ideas by a community of nearly 1,000 artists. Institutional Partnerships At the Museum School, you’ll have free rein among incomparable resources. Not only will you have free access to our own resources, you’ll also have great access to the galleries of the MFA and to the renowned classrooms of Tufts University. You can even expand your studio choices by taking a course at another area college through the ProArts Consortium. When you visit the School, you’ll see works-in-progress everywhere you look, and you’ll feel the energy of our community of working artists, both students and faculty, fully and energetically engaged in pushing the boundaries of their work. Be sure to take a few minutes and have some coffee in the Atrium: it’s the heart of the School. If you’re applying to one of the School’s programs, please let us know that you’re coming so that we can help you plan your visit and meet with you in person. And bring your artwork!
