MetroWest School of Mathematics (MWSM) in Framingham, MA is an after school educational program for children in grades K-12 serving MetroWest Boston residents. Our teaching approach is based on consistent logically interconnected Math instruction that moves steadily from easier subjects to more advanced concepts. We combine conceptual learning with practice and exercise, necessary to ensure fluent, almost automatic problem solving skills.

Who We Are MWSM is an Affiliate of Russian School of Mathematics. Founded and operated by experienced professionals from industry and academia, MWSM has experienced Math teachers who bring the love of mathematics to children of all ages. Our chess program is headed by a USCF master, and our Creative Writing classes are a real fun to attend. We are dedicated to providing top quality education to children in the K-12 range.
Our program offers top quality instructions in the following areas: Math MWSM offers top-quality instruction in Mathematics for children grades K-12. We accept children of all levels. Those who struggle with Math and believed that they are not capable of understanding Math will find that Math is understandable and enjoyable subject. Those who were "OK" in Math and considered it rather boring, will find out that Math is exciting and beautiful. Those who are doing well in Math class and believe that they do not need additional training, will thrive and excel beyond their expectations. Once a child comes to our program, we administer a placement test to determine the most appropriate level and class for each student. Our classes are small and we offer a lot of individual attention to each child. In addition, we offer free math Olympiad training for our students as early as in the 3rd grade, and many of our students compete (and win) in the National Math Olympiads such as MOEMS and AMC-8. Approach to Mathematics Curriculum We offer challenging problems from state, national and international math competitions at the appropriate grade levels. We will provide an opportunity and encourage our students to participate in the optional internal Math competition within the school as well as in State and National math competitions. The emphasis of the instruction for children aged K-5 is on developing logical thinking and math skills early, while making math instruction fun that our students love to come back to week after week and year after year. The curriculum for middle and high school continues developing the necessary math skills at a higher level, and includes requirements of SAT I and SAT II Math as early as
in grade 6. In addition, we offer concentrated SAT prep classes for high school students who have not been previously exposed to our program. Math Classes Kids and Numbers. Elementary Math 1-4. Entertaining and challenging math program for grades K-1 is designed to turn on the natural children's curiosity and awaken love to mathematics. Math for grades 2-5 includes operations with whole numbers, negative numbers, fractions, ratios and decimals, beginning of Algebra (algebraic notations and solution of simple linear equations) and Geometry (2D and 3D shapes, perimeter and area) as well as a variety of entertaining logical problems and puzzles. Pre-Algebra Introduction to Algebra, Algebra Levels 1 and 2. Algebra for grades 6 and up covers a sequence of topics traditionally included in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II: linear equations and systems, monomials and polynomials, rational algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities involving absolute values, quadratic equations, beginning of analysis of functions and graphs. We continue challenging our students with logical problems and puzzles and problems taken from math Olympiads. Click here for curriculum outline. Pre-Calculus Pre-Calculus course includes, analysis of key functions and their graphs, functional trigonometry, logarithms, elements of analytical geometry, vectors, polar and complex coordinates, as well as an introduction to limits and series. Click here for curriculum outline. Geometry Our one- or two-year course Geometry 1/2 covers planar Euclidean geometry with specific emphasis on rigorous theorem proofs and problem solving. Geometry 3 covers 3D geometry as well as geometric aspects of trigonometry. SAT I and II Preparation (Math and Language Arts) MWSM offers this intensive course to the high school students. It includes complete preparation to the new SAT tests, theory, problem solving technique, extensive practice. Great results guarantied! Chess (ages 6 & up and all levels) Chess develops logical thinking that is similar to Math thinking and uses the same brain area. Advance in chess will help children to succeed in their Math classes in addition to mastering the game. It is also really a lot of fun! Creative Writing This class teaches more than creative writing. Our outstanding instructor opens up the minds of her students teaching them to think about the books they read and the world they live in, to ask questions - and write Russian This clas targets children with elementary conversational skills . The class, led by an experienced instructor, develops young minds along with bringing their language skills to the next level.
