Medfield Dance Academy

Since 1993, Medfield Dance Academy have been teaching dance in a fun and creative way to students ages two through adult.
Our ambition is to offer quality dance education in a positive atmosphere that promotes a sense of pride and well-being. Dance helps to over come shyness and build self confidence. It encourages new friendships and personal goals. Dance education encompasses far more than technique or the steps children will learn. We believe the discipline of dance training gives young people a better understanding of commitment by offering them the chance to learn, experience the spirit of teamwork, and understand what hard work can accomplish. Our goal is to educate the minds, bodies, and souls of our students through music and dance to give them an appreciation for the arts. Exposure to the arts contribute to a well-rounded education that will stay with your child throughout their life, whether they stay involved with dance or not. We look forward to bringing the joy of dance into your child's life!
Class Descriptions
Our Tot Class and Tiny Dancers
45 minutes long, this class enhances basic coordination, listening skills and promotes kinetic awareness. The program includes pre-ballet and creative movement. The Tiny Dancers class also includes tap.
Preschool Class
An introduction to basic dance skills with a fun combination of pre-ballet, creative movement, rhythm, balance work and tap. Percussion instruments and tap are used to teach rhythm and musical awareness. Most are 45 minute classes that welcome the imagination of 4 and 5 year olds. Two Preschool classes include tumbling! Tuesday afternoon’s Preschool class is 1 hour long.
Combo classes
Step-up from Preschool Class in the length of class (l hour) as well as program content. We build on skills accomplished by age 4 and increase dance progressions. The hour class includes a 10 minute “introduction to jazz” that is a big hit with the children.
Combo classes for 1st grade
1 hour in length. Grades 2 and above are 1 ½ hours long. These classes include tap, jazz and ballet that are structured for each age-specific group. Younger students learn dance basic in a more concentrated class setting while remaining focused on fun and creativity. Older students begin to increase and apply dance techniques. We use memory games and let the children work individually, with a partner or in teams. 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade class include hip hop within the jazz portion of class, but will perform a jazz routine in the recital.
Boys Tap & Hip Hop
This is a comfortable atmosphere for boys to experience dance in an all-boys class among their peers. Hip hop is fun, fast paced and energetic, just what boys like! The percussive dance structure of tap is a favorite of the boys who love to make music with their feet! Dance helps increase flexibility, coordination and physical self-awareness, as well as improve locomotor coordination skills, motivation and the creative thinking process. These are the foundations for success in any arena – a stage or the field!
Hip Hop Jazz class
45 minutes long for students who want hip hop class only. Hip hop is a form of jazz dancing. This class includes stretching, strengthening and the latest dance moves to contemporary music.
