Antiquarian Books on Modern Art & Film
Women Artists and African American Art
Since our online catalogues represent only a portion of our current holdings at any given moment, we welcome requests for art or film books not listed in our catalogues. We are also happy to maintain permanent want lists for book collectors and for customers in search of just that one book. We specialize in personal attention to each and every customer. Our search service is free.
ARTEXT is a member of MARIAB (Massachusetts and Rhode Island Antiquarian Booksellers).
We think that collectors of art and film books care as much about the condition of the books they are buying as collectors of other kinds of books, and so we have made our best effort to describe each book's condition in detail. Most of our stock is in exceptionally nice antiquarian condition, but we urge you to read the descriptions carefully before ordering. We want our customers to be pleased with their purchases. Please feel free to query us for further details on the condition of any book if the antiquarian book jargon is unfamiliar to you or if you just can't quite picture what we're describing.
New Catalogue: Original Works of Art
For your browsing convenience, we have created a separate catalogue listing a selection of individual prints, paintings, sculpture, drawing and photographs from our current holdings. American art by Romare Bearden, John Biggers, Anitra Blayton, Beverly Buchanan, Margaret Burroughs, Elizabeth Catlett, Carmen Cicero, Miguel Covarrubias, Mabel Hall, Berry Horton, Richard Hunt, Percy Martin, Dean Mitchell, Martin Puryear, Betye Saar, John Wilson and Carl Van Vechten; an important Pop Art print portfolio with work by Claes Oldenburg, Larry Rivers, Sam Francis, Lee Bontecou, Chryssa, and Alan D'Arcangelo; a portofolio of 70s feminist photographs by Bobbi Carrey. European art includes expressionist prints by European artists Gunter Grass, Erich Heckel, Hannah Hoch, Marcel Jean, Roger Loewig, and Wols. Many other fine works, particularly by African American artists (Emma Amos, Bob Blackburn, Ed Clark, Herbert Gentry, Robert M. Jackson, Lois Mailou Jones, Sam Middleton, Faith Ringgold, Raymond Saunders, Andrew Turner, Walter Williams, Cheryl Warrick, Masood Ali Warren, Ellis Wilson, James Vanderzee) are also available and will be listed in the next few months.
